My friend Tricia emailed me the other day asking about protein supplementation as she has recently taken up long distance cycling and doesn’t eat much meat. Her goals are to fuel her rides and burn fat. Here is what I told her. It is relevant to anyone who is using endurance sport (running, cycling, swimming) to shape up and lose weight. I’m great, and LOVING being back up here. I haven’t been out on my bike enough tho… Anyway, in terms of nutrition, I have a few protein powders I prefer – Vega and Plant Fusion. I’ve tried Garden of Life, but I find it to be very grainy. Sunwarrior is also raw/vegan and it tastes better, although the protein content is a little less.
If you can tolerate whey protein, get yourself a good organic/grass fed option. That designer whey from Trader Joes is the worst (although my hubby loves it).
