Happy new year everyone!
No matter what you got up to last night, I hope you’ve had some time to reflect on the year you’ve had and consider what you want for the year ahead. This morning, my friend and I went to a local Insight Meditation Center for a guided meditation and Dharma talk. The teacher encouraged us to think about what our intentions are for the new year, and how we could align them to sustained happiness.
How to Sustain Happiness
Sustained happiness, unlike fleeting happiness, has everything to do with being kind to self and others. It’s about pausing to consider how your actions and choices will impact yourself and the people around you, rather than acting without thought. Our meditation teacher’s point was that when we cause harm to others, either intentionally or unintentionally, we also harm ourselves. So being mindful about our behavior can protect us from painful feelings of guilt, shame, and regret.
This certainly isn’t rocket science, but sometimes the simplest ideas can be the hardest to implement.
My Phrase for 2019 – Kindness + Creativity
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have goals or aspirations for this year that revolved around metrics, KPIs and dollar amounts. It’s hard to avoid these measures of success. But while I strive for new levels of success in my business and deeper levels of connection in my personal life, I have made a commitment to myself to keep kindness and creativity front and center through all of it. It’s how I plan to show up not only in my work and relationships with others, most importantly, it’s how I will show up for myself.
Kindness through Chocolate
I may have mentioned this before, but I’m not a big Christmas person and I don’t love exchanging gifts. If I need something, I can go out and buy it for myself, and I’d rather spend time with people than give them things they may not want or use. So this year, I gave my friends the gift of chocolate, because what better way is there to express love, right?
This recipe is super simple to make and honestly, it makes the perfect little gift. I mean, everyone likes chocolate, don’t they?
Fair warning, the process of making them is a little messy, but the fun part is dressing them up in little gift boxes and handing them out to friends. I used these little boxes and put 4, 1-inch truffles per box with a little ribbon. My friends loved them!
Chocolate Truffle Wishes
Before I head to the recipe, I just want to take a moment to thank you for being here. When you come by the site, leave comments and let me know when my work has an impact on your life, it means the world to me. So thank you. Thanks for coming back again and again and being a part of my journey while letting me be a part of yours. I truly hope 2019 brings you everything your heart desires and most of all, I hope it brings you plenty of kindness.
