Carrot fries are the perfect weeknight veggie option because it appeals to the exhausted, lazy cook (<-hello, that's me. Anyone else?). This recipe is made right in the air fryer, so no additional dishes get dirty and you know what? They’re really good!
Which carrots are best for carrot fries?
I think if you have a fry cutter, using a full carrot would be totally fine. I don’t have one, so I use baby carrots. They’re just easier to work with because they’re already cleaned, prepped and ready to go. If you want a crispier fry you can slice the baby carrots lengthwise to thin them out, but honestly, I never do.
What’s the best seasoning for carrot fries?
In my recipe, I use cumin and smoked paprika along with some Maldon salt (which is the best thing ever). That said, you could use any seasoning you want, from chili lime, to garlic and onion powder. Parmesan would be awesome, too! Anything goes with this recipe.
What you’ll need to make carrot fries
- An air fryer (this is the one I use and recommend)
- A 12 ounce bag of baby carrots
- Non-stick spray (I recommend using olive oil, avocado oil or coconut oil sprays)
- Seasoning (I used cumin & smoked paprika)
- Maldon salt
How to make Carrot fries
The video below will walk you through the process, but the TLDR is this:
- Put the carrots in the air fryer tray
- Spray with non-stick spray
- Season as you wish
- Shake the tray so the carrots get even coverage
- Pop in the air fryer and press “on”
In about 17 minutes, you’ll have amazing carrot fries that you can brag about to your friends. Obviously, they will get crispier the longer you cook them, but I recommend checking them every few minutes so they don’t burn. You can cook them up to 22 minutes in most air fryers.
Can you freeze carrot fries?
I wouldn’t recommend that, but you can re-fry them later to warm them up. They also hold their texture really well when you heat them up in the microwave. Trust me, these fries are so easy to snack on that they won’t last long enough to freeze.
What to eat with carrot fries?
I really like dipping them in sugar-free BBQ sauce. I recommend the Primal Kitchen brand, but there are other options as well.
