If you've ever dismissed the idea of getting fit at home because you're worried it won't give you the results you're hoping for, think again. These are NOT your Mama's 20 minute workouts anymore!
Your fitness isn't determined by where you workout or even what equipment you use. You can get crazy fit just doing bodyweight workouts in your bedroom. No matter what your goals are, you don't need a gym membership to get there. It can help, if that's what you enjoy, but if you hate the atmosphere of a gym (<- yep), then forcing yourself to go to one is actually a recipe for disaster. If you end up associating the discomfort or dread of going to a gym with your actual workout, you're going to eventually hate everything about exercise.
Let's not go there 🙂
Generally, I hear from readers that time and motivation are two of the biggest roadblocks around getting to a gym on the regular. If that's an issue with you, I think you've got a world of opportunity to try other ways of getting fit in your home or better yet, outside!
A well-rounded fitness practice doesn’t have to be complicated or take up a lot of space. Personally, my home gym consists of a few core pieces and it can all fit under the bed if I need to tuck it away. But again, if you want to take a really minimal approach to your workouts, you can just use what mother nature gave you to get your sweat on. Totally doable!
So here’s my basic equipment list for a simple at home gym. I'll even throw in a full body workout that can be done with everything you see here. I’ve also got a great lower body/glute workout I’m willing to share so just send me a quick email and I’ll shoot it over to you.
The Basics
Workout bands - perfect for travel workouts
Sliders - also perfect for travel workouts
Not necessary, but fun to have
Pink Bosu Ball - this thing is just so much fun and it's a perfect alternative to buying a workout bench.
If you struggle with knowing what kind of workout to do, I recommend getting access to a few on demand programs that you can stream from your phone, iPad or laptop. There's a number of different offerings out there from YogaDownload.com to ClassPass who also now have their own streaming live workouts, but my favorite is BeachbodyOnDemand. I like Beachbody the best because they offer a variety of workouts, from yoga to dance and weightlifting, the programs are progressive and they're also really affordable. Regardless of where you are, just start! Explore, test and try out every kind of workout you can find. There's something out there for everyone - you just need to find what works for you!
