A few years ago I bought a suspension system (a.k.a. TRX) just to play around with and spice up my home workouts. I love suspension exercises because they’re mostly low impact and they challenge you in a completely different way than weight lifting. You can also dial the intensity up or down based on your body positioning (more on this in a minute). But mostly, I love it because it’s not a huge investment and doesn’t take up a ton of room, which is ideal when you’re working out at home, or when you're renting a house in Palm Springs!
Worried about attaching a TRX to your wall?
Don't be. The suspension system fits into a door frame so no need for a power drill or holes in the wall. It has adjustments for length which is helpful if you're in a small room.
How Much Does a TRX Cost?
The prices vary based on which pieces of equipment you invest in, but the basic system is under $100 USD. This is the one you can wedge into a door frame, so it's very mobile.
What kind of workouts can you do with a TRX?
Rather than try to explain it, I've selected a few videos that provide quick, effective workouts. They will give you an idea of how fun this equipment is to play around with and help you decide if suspension workouts are for you.
If you’re trying to learn tricky moves like a pistol squat, a TRX can be really helpful for stability. BTW, in full disclosure, I could have 15 people holding me up and I still couldn’t perform a proper pistol squat. But I keep working on those squats because this looks like fun 🙂
Give these TRX workouts try and let me know what you think. They may look pretty easy, but you might be surprised at how challenging they are!
I'm always trying new moves with my suspension system. It was 100% worth the investment. I travel with it all the time and it fits into a suitcase, no problem!
