I get a ton of questions about the differences between 2b Mindset vs Ultimate Portion Fix nutrition plans. Since I’ve done both programs, I have a lot to say on the topic which I’ll share below. Want the short answer? I think both programs have a lot going for them, but your success depends on your personality and lifestyle.

But first, in case you’re wondering...
What is 2B Mindset and the Ultimate Portion Fix?
These are Beachbody’s exclusive nutrition programs, and quite honestly, it’s the reason you see such great before and after shots from the fitness programs. Because let’s be clear - even the most advanced fitness program will not give you fat loss results if you’re not following a sound nutrition plan as well.

As the saying goes - you can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet.
With that, Beachbody created these two programs to compliment their entire network of incredible workout programs so that people could get the results they’re looking for faster and more effectively.
Not into working out?
That’s fine, these are also stand alone programs that can be followed without exercising at all. More on that in a minute.
Let's start with 2B Mindset
2B Mindset was created by Los Angeles-based Registered Dietitian, Illana Muhlstein and it's designed to be very flexible in nature. For those of you who enjoy food flexibility, you'll appreciate that there's no counting calories or measuring food portions. You simply track what you eat and follow a set of guidelines based on intuitive eating.
This program is perfect for someone who hates following meal plans and strict diets. 2B Mindset encourages you to eat healthfully and mindfully, but you choose the foods you eat. By prioritizing smarter choices, you start to understand which food choices work best for you for the long haul.
I would not call 2B Mindset a diet at all. It’s a healthy, sustainable approach to eating that will enable you to stay lean for the long haul.
From a personality/lifestyle perspective, I believe this program is for people who want an easier approach to weight loss. If you’re someone who goes crazy following diets or you don't have the time or interest to weigh every morsel of food before you eat it, then this is the program for you.
What you’ll love about 2B Mindset
- It’s simple to follow and flexible in terms of food options
- There’s TONS of coaching and mentorship throughout the program
- It is perfect for people who travel a lot or don’t eat many meals at home
- It’s supportive and inclusive, so ideal for people with more than 40 lbs to lose, or who have a poor track record with dieting in the past
- It’s not discouraging, restrictive or emotionally triggering. I find Ilana to be so inspiring and uplifting!

The Ultimate Portion Fix
The Ultimate Portion Fix originated from the extremely popular 21 Day Fix Meal Plan. It dates back to the launch of the 21 Day Fix workout that everyone raved about. People saw such great results the meal program that came with the workout that Beachbody decided to make a standalone nutrition program out of it.
So the Ultimate Portion Fix was born to serve the type of person that appreciates a done-for-you meal plan that requires minimal thinking and zero guesswork. It focuses on balanced macronutrients (proteins, fats and carbs), but also incorporates portion control, which is the secret sauce to its success.
When you order the Ultimate Portion Fix program, you receive a bundle of helpful tools which includes a container system that shows you exactly how much meat, veggies, fruit and carbs that you should be eating every day. It also includes superfood nutrition, a handy guide, tons of meal plans, a recipe book and a library of videos to help guide you through the process.
This is a program that I’ve personally followed for years, so I have a ton of recipes for 21 Day Fix/Ultimate Portion Fix meal ideas on my website.
Given that this is a measurement-based program, as you can imagine, it’s more ideal for people who like to follow the rules. If you’re someone who enjoys planning meals, tracking food and coming up with creative ideas to fill your daily portions, you’ll love this plan.
While there is a recommended food list for the program, you are free to design your own meals, or follow along one of the many suggested meal plans. It’s totally up to you.
The Ultimate Portion Fix also has specific guidelines for vegans and vegetarians, too.
What you’ll love about the Ultimate Portion Fix
- It’s very popular so you’ll find LOTS of recipe ideas on the internet.
- It’s results are matched (as long as you follow the plan!)
- It’s all laid out for you. There’s very little guesswork involved
- It’s ideal for people who really want to lose that last 10 or 20lbs. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate some of the advanced techniques you’ll learn like carb cycling.
- The creator is very motivating and she takes a no-nonsense approach to her coaching. I love that about this program.

If you're still not sure which program is best for you, I've answered the most common questions that I hear from my readers, below.
Do I have to workout if I follow either of these programs?
No. You cab buy them as standalone programs (2b Mindset here and the Ultimate Portion Fix here), although they are also sold with all of the workout programs as well, so it’s entirely up to you. If you’re someone who hates exercise, I recommend the 2B Mindset plan. Ilana is very clear about nutrition being far more effective for lasting weight loss, so she emphasizes focusing on food first.
What foods do you eat on the 2B Mindset and Ultimate Portion Fix?
Both programs focus on balanced nutrition, so you’ll be eating lots of veggies, clean protein and healthy fats. There is nothing out of the ordinary with these diets. No special foods, and you can eat your preferred foods in moderation. There’s also room for treats and wine! YAY!!
Is the 2B Mindset and Ultimate Portion Fix a Membership?
It depends on how you purchase it. If you order the program without a workout, it’s just a one-time payment. However, if you add the program on to a workout program, you’ll get both programs included free for one month. If you decide you want to keep the program, there’s a monthly fee that you can cancel anytime. With that membership, you’ll constantly get new plans, coaching, and new training to consume.
What if I don’t know which plan to try?
As I mentioned above, if you order a workout bundle, you get both programs for free for the first month. That way, you can try them out, see which one works best for you, then follow that. However, if you prefer to buy the standalone nutrition plan (because you don’t want to workout), you can order whichever one feels most appealing to you. If you don’t like it, you can return it in the first 30 days and then order the other one.
How do you access the programs?
The majority of each program is video-based. So, when you purchase either 2B Mindset or Ultimate Portion Fix, you get access to the program on Beachbody on Demand which is an app (that you can also access on your computer). Along with that, you’ll be mailed all the tools you need, depending on which plan you go with.
Which one will give you better results?
The program that you’re most likely to follow is the program that will give you the best results. I’ll be honest, the Ultimate Portion Fix is not for everyone. It requires you to track and measure your food, which is not ideal for some people. That said, if you can stick with it, you’re going to see results fast.
Conversely, 2B Mindset is more flexible and better for people who tend to give up easily. You may not see results as fast because it’s not as intense, but you’ll be more likely to stick with it forever because it’s simple to follow. For that reason alone, I tend to encourage readers to start with 2B Mindset if they’ve failed at diets in the past.
What if I have a crazy busy lifestyle and eat out a lot?
If you’re someone who is constantly on the go, please opt for 2B Mindset. Ilana will teach you how to eat at restaurants, parties and special occasions. You’ll discover how to fill your plate for success and enjoyment.
The final takeaway on both 2B Mindset and Ultimate Portion Fix
Both programs are beneficial in that you’ll learn so much about proper nutrition and how to feed yourself for not only results, but also for your health! They will teach you how to choose and prepare foods that are healthy and delicious and encourage you along the way.
I don't think you can go wrong with either option and investing in your healthiest self is never a bad idea.
If you have any questions about either nutrition program, please drop them in the comments below and I'll be sure to follow up!

Hi Carin, do you have any tips for weight loss for women mid to late 50’s? I gained 8 pounds in just a few months. I can’t seem to budge even one pound. It is depressing. I am someone who has always kept an eye on my weight as I am short.
Thank you. 🙂
Caren
Hey Jen, I recommend tracking your food so you can get super clear on how much your eating and what your macro balance is. If you're over 50 and not very active, I recommend a higher protein/fat diet with a lot of veggies. The best way to track your food intake is by counting macros. This program is super simple and very helpful: https://thefithabit.thinkific.com/courses/Macrosmadeeasy
