Looking for the best Beachbody workout for beginners? I've got you covered along with a sample workouts you can try for free, right here in the blog post.
Does Beachbody even have workouts for beginners?
Yes! In fact, some of Beachbody's biggest success stories start as absolute beginners. Beachbody may be known for challenging programs like P90X and Insanity (both are NOT for beginners), but they also develop programs for people who want to start getting into fitness but don't know where to start.
Whether you're looking to get strong and muscular or lose 100 pounds, Beachbody is a great tool to get you started. Here's why:
- There are over 700 workouts on Beachbody on Demand, all categorized by length of time and level of difficulty. So there's no way you can't find something that's perfect for you.
- The workouts span a variety of movement, from cardio dance and yoga to weight training and barre, so you'll never get bored!
- It's an affordable option for most people. At only $99 per year, Beachbody on Demand is the best deal you'll find in the online fitness market.
Best Beachbody Workouts for Beginners in 2020
Note: All of the workouts listed below are included in the annual Beachbody on Demand Membership for $99.
There's a lot of older workouts that have been covered in prior posts, but I wanted to take a fresh perspective based on some new programs that have come out in the last two years.
Barre Blend - Beginner/Intermediate
Difficulty 2/5 (as long as you follow the beginner modifier)
If you're just starting out and you want a program that involves minimal equipment and jumping, then you'll love Barre Blend. It's based on the principles of ballet, but you don't have to be graceful or flexible to get the most from this program.
Go ahead and try the sample workout below and see what you think!
A little Obsessed - Beginner/Intermediate
Difficulty: 2/5
I call this program the "little sister" to the well-known program, 80 Day Obsession. A Little Obsessed is a shorter, less advanced program that helps you develop your form and physical stamina in order to crush the big program. I like it because the workouts are shorter (30 mins), but they're still fun. You'll need some equipment for this program.
Check out the trailer for the program below.
21 Day Fix Real Time - Beginner
Difficulty 2/5
This is the newer, revised version of the very popular, 21 Day Fix. Unlike the original, each workout is unique and progressive making it more interesting and fun. You'll need some hand weights and a workout band for this workout, but it's worth it. I love it!
Check out the free sample workout below to get a feel for it (not a complete workout).
Shift Shop - Beginner
Difficulty 2 or 3/5
While everyone will find this workout to be challenging, the moves are basic enough that a beginner can get through it. It's designed to make you leaner, faster and stronger in minimal time, so expect to work hard for this workout!
Check out the short sample workout below to get a feel for it (not a complete workout).
3 Week Yoga Retreat
Difficulty: 2/5
Oh, I love 3 Week Yoga Retreat! It's designed for the beginner yogi and there are a variety of different teachers and styles which gives you a nice taste of the different kinds of yoga. It's like a yoga-buffet, only you do each class in a specific order. The classes get progressively more challenging, but it's never going to be more than a beginner can handle.

Questions I often get from Beginners to Beachbody Workouts
Where should I buy the equipment for the programs?
I recommend Amazon or Walmart. It's cheaper than buying through Beachbody.
How will I know what equipment to buy?
Once you buy a membership to the platform, you'll get all that info in each of the workout modules. I'd recommend sampling a few programs and seeing if you like it before you go out and buy equipment. Remember, not all programs require equipment, so you can get started right away. Cize, Country Heat, Barre Blend and Piyo can all be done without any equipment.
Should I buy Supplements too, or just Beachbody on Demand?
I like to tell people that if they buy a bundle package with either the pre- and post workout supplement or Shakeology, then they get a better price on everything. It's $160 for a year-long access to the workouts AND a month of supplements.
If you just buy access to the workouts, it's $99. If you decide you want to buy the supplements later, they are a lot more expensive on their own.
That said, it's up to you. Some folks don't love to take supplements. I love the Energize pre-workout as it gives me the energy to get through my workouts.
Can a beginner do Transform 20 or Insanity Max?
You can try! Both of these workouts will challenge you. There's a lot of jumping and a ton of sweating. Transform 20 does have a beginner modifier you can follow that doesn't even involve a step, which is really nice if you just want to try it out.
Insanity Max? Well, that's a crazy-hard program, but there's nothing stopping you from giving it a whirl. If it's too much, just take breaks or try something else. That's the beauty of using an online platform. You can try as many workouts as you like.

Will this work with just the food part as I work and walk. That's it and will not do the actually video part so I would not get.
Caren
Hi Debbie,
Yes - you will see results if you just follow the nutrition program. Walking is great exercise!
Kara
I am curious what workout you are doing in the picture where you’re holding weights. I ask because I prefer working out barefoot with yoga or Pilates but I also really like weights. That picture seems to be the best of both worlds and I was wondering if that is a particular workout or program from BODi (Beach Body)?
Caren
Me too! I do mostly barre blend. Fire and flow also has some flowy style workouts with weights.
Kara
Yay! Those are the 2 programs I am considering! I really appreciate you responding so quickly!
